Are you looking for the perfect accessory to add to your wardrobe this season? How about a new handbag? Handbags are the perfect addition to any outfit, whether casual or formal. If you are thinking about purchasing a handbag this season (either for yourself or as a gift) you need to read up on some handbag trends that have been spotted all over the catwalk. From the classics to surprising resurrections, you will not want to be left on the handbag sidelines this coming year.
It seems that clutches never go out of style. Or at least not this season! Clutches have been seen in the collections of Armani, Ralph Lauren, and Michael Kors. Look for clutches in fur, patent leather (pleather for animal lovers), or in the envelope shape. You might also look for clutches that come in funky neon colors. Opt for ones that have elegant, simple design overall. Go for something a bit louder for formal gatherings. The ridicule bag, a slightly larger relative of the clutch, have also been seen in the collections of Christian Siriano, Lanvin, and even Dolce & Gabbana.
Two surprising throwback trends have happened in this season’s collections. One is the 1990s trend of the mini-backpack. Many might recall that these bags are called haversacks. The hottest ones are in leather or fun, colorful patterns. Again, Ralph Lauren’s Polo Collection, and Micheal Kors featured these looks. As did Rag & Bone. Another hot trend that we love is that of 1960s inspired bags. Lots of these feature leather, as well. They often have short handles, as opposed to long straps. We love big, boxy ones. Dior, Louis Vuitton, Hugo Boss, and Miu Miu are all also loving this trend.

Finally! Break out your animal themed bags again! Not only are we seeing leather as a handbag mainstay, but also fur covered bags and bags with animal prints. Reptile skin bags are also making a comeback. For a pop of black and white (another huge current trend) go with some zebra print. These are acceptable in everything from large messenger bags to satchels and clutches. Jimmy Choo, Valentino, and D&G all featured fur handbags in their shows. Reptile skin bags also popped up in D&G’s newest collection. Versace, Micheal Kors, Valli, Fendi, and Balenciaga also featured reptile skin bags. Leather bags were too many to count.
